About this guide
The public sector bank Law Officer exam after the 2026 overhaul. The new prelims with law in it, the 225-mark mains, the 80:20 merit 38 formula, a banking-law syllabus mapped to sections and 15 questions.
IBPS runs one exam for Law Officers across the public sector banks. For the 2026 cycle it changed the pattern: law is now tested from the preliminary exam onwards, and the main exam is longer. Many coaching materials still describe the old pattern.
